Books and CDs
We specialise in Religious Studies and Theology publishing but we're also a general publisher.
For a detailed description of the books, please go to the relevant pages on the menu to the left. What follows is an overview.
So, what have we got?
Well, in addition to A Christmas Anthology, there are:
Books and CDs for schools Books by William Barclay and other theology Novels
Books and CDs for schools
You may know that Lion Publishing produced two bestselling textbooks for GCSE Religious Studies: Mark: A Gospel for Today and Today's Issues and Christian Beliefs. They were by Simon and Christopher Danes and were also translated into a number of different languages. They've become standard GCSE textbooks. St Mark's Press now publishes these titles but in totally new editions, for the current GCSE specifications.
They are designed to be suitable for ALL the GCSE specifications.
'We've got the old editions. Is it worth buying the new ones?'
Yes! With the best will in the world, textbooks don't always keep pace with the changes to syllabuses. Ours have. The new version of Today's Issues and Christian Beliefs is up to date: 75% of the content is entirely new, and where previous material's been used, the text has been updated. (The last revision to the Lion edition was done in 2000. So, the statistics and examples we use are much more recent.) Both books have imaginative new graphics and illustrations, designed to hold students' interest. Many of them have been chosen because they provoke discussion in themselves. Mark: A Gospel for Today is designed to withstand any future specification changes: it now covers the entire text and includes lots of test-yourself questions on what Mark says, to help students revise. (Exam candidates have found these questions especially helpful to learn the text of Mark.) You can select what you need. Both books been updated by incorporating what works best in the classroom: feedback from teachers and students has been really useful here.
We've added a third, entirely new textbook to what we're now calling the 'Today' series: Philosophy of Religion for Today. Once more, this is by Simon and Christopher Danes, but they're joined by Seeta Lakhani, a leading Hindu writer and teacher. The feedback has been very good.
A Teacher's Book for Mark: A Gospel for Today is also available: please go to the page on that textbook. Revise Mark's Gospel for GCSE, the updated version of Lion's acclaimed title, is also proving popular.
If you want something that will really bring Mark's story to life, have a look at our CD of Mark's Gospel. You might have heard other recordings of biblical books which are fairly flat: they're fine, but they're not exactly exciting. Peter Wickham, the actor who's recorded our version, was a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company, and he's made over 250 audiobooks. His experience really shows. It's a powerful and compelling reading.
The books and especially the CD will be good buys for individual students, as they're helpful for revision. The CD's especially good in this respect and many schools have ordered individual copies for their exam candidates. And there's the updated new edition of Revise Mark's Gospel for GCSE, suitable for all specifications.

Novels
Chris Danes' On Balance is now available. A compelling novel: part crime fiction, part psychological study, On Balance probes deep into the human psyche and examines its fragility, its cruelty - and the redemptive power of its love.
