For Church Schools:

Today's Issues is designed for use in all sectors; it has also been written with the needs of Church schools in mind - and it's very popular in Anglican and Roman Catholic schools.  Both the writers have been heads of RE in Church and non-denominational schools, so they understand the needs of the different sectors, including the demands of Roman Catholic RE;  it specifically covers Catholic teaching on the issues.  Above all, the book aims to get students to think!

Many teachers will be familiar with the book from its previous incarnations, but if you've never come across Today's Issues before, why not order an inspection copy and see what you think?

We've already got the Lion edition.  Is there any point in getting the new one?

Yes!

- The last updates to the Lion edition were done in 2000.

It was a good book but now, alas, it's just out of date.

The specifications have moved on and much of the old

edition is no longer so relevant.  Indeed, 75% of our

new St Mark's Press edition is totally new material.  And

the examples and evidence have been updated.

- We've had the chance to incorporate the feedback

from teachers and students into the new edition.  It's

been fine tuned according to what works in the

   classrooms, and what students like.

- Better graphics, better questions; and the first person

accounts, by people involved in the issues, have really

   impressed people!

- And:

'A classic GCSE Religious Studies textbook'

- Church Times

'Packed full of information, the book contains valuable and detailed content on a range of topics.  A significant amount of the material is simply not found in other school textbooks.  The personal accounts and stories are also particularly helpful for engaging and informing students.  I'm much enjoying using it.'

Andrew Dalton, Head of RE, Shrewsbury School

Catherine, Yr 10:

'Today's Issues is informative and gives a great insight into the beliefs and stances of denominations other than Christianity.

I look forward to studying this text next year.'

Rebecca, Yr 10:

'Flicking through this book, I found myself reading the titles of pages and wanting to read more!  The topics covered are engaging and interesting and the pages are clearly and approachably laid out.'  [Student comments from Beaulieu Convent School]

And another teacher comment:

'[The exam board's] textbook is really thin.  Today's Issues took me through my PGCE!'
