The 'Today' series:
student friendly... teacher friendly...
Philosophy of Religion for Today is a new textbook for GCSE RS from the authors of the highly commended and bestselling Today's Issues and Christian Beliefs and Mark: A Gospel for Today, co-written with Seeta Lakhani, author of Hinduism for Schools.
- Philosophy of Religion for Today is written by three experienced writers
who are all teachers and who know what works in the classroom!
- GCSE requires that at least one religion is studied. It refers to all the
major faiths and a Christian perspective is supplied by Simon and Chris
Danes; we also look at non-religious viewpoints. A Hindu perspective is
given by Seeta Lakhani, a leading Hindu writer and teacher.
- Lots of imaginative graphics, cartoons and photos to make the
text accessible, to draw students in, and to prompt debate.
- Never sells students short and constantly attempts to help them to think
for themselves.
- Teacher friendly: we want this to be all you need to teach the course. It
makes for easy lesson and course planning.
- Questions are set on each topic, suitable for classwork and homework, and
there are lots of questions for class debate.
Philosophy of Religion for Today is a GCSE textbook. But it's also suitable for A Level students, especially AS Level students. That doesn't mean it's too hard for GCSE pupils! However, while they were writing it, it did occur to Simon and Chris that the book would actually be very useful to bridge the gap between GCSE and A Level. Both of them have spent many years as heads of RE and, like so many teachers (and students!), appreciate how hard it can be to make the leap to A Level. Rather than throwing them in at the deep end, this book provides a painless and accessible introduction. (And they'll enjoy reading it, too.)
Students:
The book will help you with your revision. It's fun and people who've spoken to us about it say it's really interesting! If you're doing A Level and want something to act as a painless guide, do buy a copy. Please go to the 'How to order' page.
Booksellers and librarians:
This is the new title in the 'Today' series. The other two titles were originally published by Lion (this one's entirely new) and were carried extensively by bookshops in their theology or education sections. The companion volumes were bestsellers. Do contact us for our trade rates: we'd be glad to hear from you.
Libraries: the other two titles in the 'Today' series were carried by many libraries to help school students, especially with their homework and revision. This will provide a welcome resource for young people studying RS for GCSE and for A Level.

'A welcome addition to
the range of books now
on offer for GCSE
Religious Studies.
The images and drawings
are refreshing and the text
is a particular strength. The
conversational style is
absorbing, while difficult
concepts are clearly and
painstakingly explained,
using imaginative examples
pupils can understand. It is
both accessible and
scholarly. The authors show
a true engagement with the subject, inviting pupils to think critically around some of our most enduring philosophical issues.'
