About us
St Mark's Press
St Mark's Press began trading in 2009. We're an independent publisher, specialising in RE and theology books, particularly those by William Barclay, though we're expanding into other areas.
St Mark's Press was established by Simon Danes. Simon was born in 1965, went to primary school in Twickenham and to St Andrew's High School and the Sixth Form College in Worthing, before moving on to Brasenose College, Oxford, where he read Theology (and was a contemporary of a young man called David Cameron). After his PGCE from King's College, London, he taught RE in a number of schools. He was Head of RE at The Bishop's Stortford High School and Cardinal Newman, Hove, and then became curriculum manager (director of studies) at St Columba's College and deputy head (curriculum) at Princethorpe College. Simon still teaches but his main focus now is St Mark's Press. He is married with three children.
With Christopher Danes, Simon wrote Lion's bestselling GCSE textbooks, Mark: A Gospel for Today and Today's Issues and Christian Beliefs. Today's Issues has been translated into a number of different languages. The new and updated editions of both books are now available from St Mark's Press, together with Philosophy of Religion for Today.
Ethical policy
St Mark's Press supports Christian Aid: The Today Series, the Teacher's Book on Mark and the CD each carry a donation of £1 to Christian Aid and we are grateful to our readers and buyers for their support. With Maldon in Mind continues to raise money for Maldon (Essex) Mind, the mental health charity, who receive all the profits from that title. The 2011 Christmas Anthology is produced in association with Traidcraft.
