Book a speaker

Book a speaker for GCSE, A Level or General Religious Studies

Simon Danes is the co-author of Mark: A Gospel for Today,

Today's Issues and Christian Beliefs and Philosophy of Religion

for Today.  He was formerly head of RE at The Bishop's Stortford

High School and Cardinal Newman, Hove, followed by ten years as

a curriculum manager.  He's a skilled and entertaining speaker, who's

had a great deal of experience of leading sessions for young people,

from small groups to large audiences.

Simon's now the director of St Mark's Press and he's available to come

and speak to your students.  Feedback from staff and students from

previous sessions has been very good.

The sessions can be for GCSE or A Level RS, student societies, or for General Studies or general RE in the sixth form.  Simon's keen to be flexible, so you can ask for any topic you like, though there are some 'old favourites', which may be of particular interest.

So, here are the 'old favourites':

- Revising successfully for your GCSE RS.  (This is a popular session.  It can be

tailored to general revision for GCSEs, if that's preferred.)

- The problem of evil

- Relationships and marriage

- Sexual ethics

- Crime and punishment

- Racism

- Poverty and Christian action

- The morality of war

- Abortion

- Euthanasia (these two topics can be combined if preferred)

- Does God exist?

- The book of Genesis and science

- Do miracles happen?

- Is there life after death?

- What is the Bible?

Mark's Gospel:  Simon can speak on all aspects of this, though you may wish to select from the following:

- Mark:  authorship and background

- Two topics that often confuse students:  The Kingdom of God and the title of 'Son

   of Man'.  Painless explanations provided!

- The Passion story in Mark's Gospel

- Did Jesus rise from the dead?

If you'd like Simon to come to speak to your students, please contact him at St Mark's Press (01234 824861 or email info@stmarkspress.com)    The rates are based on the normal supply teacher's daily rate.
